• SYNTHESIS AND ANTHELMINTIC ACTIVITY OF SOME 1-PHENYL-2-SUBSTITUTED BENZIMIDAZOLE DERIVATIVES

Abstract


A Convenient high yield synthesis of pharmaceutically interesting1-phenyl-2-substituted benzimidazole derivatives from o-phenylene diamine is described. The structures of compounds were established on the basis of IR and NMR spectral data. The title compounds were investigated for anthelmintic activity. The tested compounds exhibited good anthelmintic activity as compared to standard drug. The 2-substituted benzimidazole was generated from the condensation between o-phenylene diamine and substituted carboxylic acid and then converted to the desired derivatives by condensation with chlorobenzene.
