• THE LEKHANIYA MAHAKASAYA OF CHARAK - A FORWARD STEP TOWARDS MEDOVRIDDHI (OBESITY) TREATMENT

Abstract

The Lekhaniya mahakasaya of Charak contained ten drug, those are important in treatment of Meda ~obesity. Medas is fourth dhatu of the body is derived from 3^rd dhatu or mansa dhatu. Owing to an excessive increase of medas and mansa dhatu the buttock abdomen and breast region become pendulous and his strength is rendered disproportionate with his physical growth. Heavy and non – nourishing diet is prescribed for sliming in case of over obese persons. In order that the over obese once are brought to normal heath heavy but non nourishing diet like honey may be given by virtue of their heaviness such diets would minimize the force of aggravated power of digestion and due to their non nourishing nature they would help to reduce of fat. The drugs in Lekhaniya mahakasaya of Charak have Tikshna, Ruksha, Lekhana and Chedana properties. Having priority of Vayu and agni tatva this mahakasaya is specially prescribed for the Lekhana karma.
